Campbell Veterans Memorial Foundation

To our veterans, donors, and partners, the Campbell Veterans Memorial Foundation (CVMF) is pleased to present this Newsletter about the Foundation’s activities, plans, and important events for 2024.

As we celebrate Christmas and the New Year, the CVMF extends our heartfelt gratitude to our faithful supporters and generous donors. Your unwavering assistance has profoundly impacted veteran students' lives, enabling them to pursue their educational dreams and build brighter futures. During this holiday season, we reflect on the spirit of giving that defines our community. Your contributions provided scholarships, hope, and encouragement to those who have served our country.

Thanks for being a part of the CVMF family.

ICYMI

We are delighted to share the success of our Saluting Our Veterans Gala held at West Valley College on November 16th. The event was graced by a glittering cast of well-wishers, donors, and local dignitaries congregating to raise awareness and support for student veteran scholarships.

The evening was a true celebration, featuring superb culinary delights provided by Taco ‘Bout It, fun music by Ken Watson, and an extraordinary auction experience led by Dee Dee Kiesow. The atmosphere was filled with joy and camaraderie, making it a joyful night of giving.

One fun part of the evening was hearing from former CVMF Endowment winners. Our 2022 West Valley graduate and awardee, Tim Rodriquez, shared a heartfelt review on how the scholarship changed his life. Our latest winner, Nicholas Tugangui from Mission College, was also applauded for representing the reasons why CVMF scholarships are vital, helping veterans transition from the physical demands of military service to the academic challenges of college life.

We were honored to have West Valley/Mission College Chancellor Bradley Davis deliver a motivational Keynote speech. He captivated the audience with his story of landing on an aircraft carrier in an F-18 Hornet and offered deep insight into the dangers and glory of military service. His words resonated with all service men and women in attendance. We also thank Dr. Jennifer Taylor-Mendoza, President of West Valley College, for allowing us to host this glamorous event at such a grand venue befitting the occasion.

Of course, our gala's success would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors, donors, and attendees. To all our guests, thanks for your participation. To our donors, sponsors, and partners, mere words cannot fully express our sincere gratitude and appreciation.

Special nods for some of our notable guests and donors who made this Gala a true night to remember: Ken Johnson (Campbell Chamber of Commerce), Bill Cooper (Cooper-Garrod Winery), Bill Gould (Artik Architecture), Campbell Mayor Susan Landry, Steve Guruwiya (Best Version Media), Tran Nguyet (Mission College), Bert Valdez (A&B Painting), Bill Belcher, Cole Cameron (Chairman, Veterans Commission), Kent Hillhouse, Adrienne Grey (WVMC Trustee), Emmy Moore Minister, and Lou Bash, (SanJose/Silicon Valley Rotary Club).

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, we want to extend a million thanks to Arnold Breit Photography (Abreit@Comcast.net) for showcasing the gala and all the exciting people who attended.

Veterans Day, 11/11/24

Although the day broke dark and cloudy, CMVF’s Veterans Day celebration was sparkling and bright. We moved the event indoors to the City Hall Meeting Chambers to avoid rare but looming rain showers. Thanks to the quick and effective work of City Manager Brian Loventhal, Diana Johnson, and City Council Member Dan Furtado, the venue change was a roaring success. The Del Mar High School Band and the Marine Corps Color Guard were able to execute all their maneuvers with harmony and precision.

Elliott Scozolla, Frank Jewitt, Susan Ellenberg, Susan Landry, Anna Eshoo, Dave Cortese, Tim Rodriguez, Jim Clark-Moore.

Inspiring words by State Senator Dave Cortese, Santa Clara Board President Susan Ellenberg, and Campbell Mayor Susan Landry created an atmosphere of pride and remembrance in that cozy venue. They set the table for the heartfelt remarks by our esteemed U.S. House Representative, Anna Eshoo. Tears flowed and hugs given as Ms. Eshoo regaled the audience with her grand 32-year history of serving the city, district, and nation.

We are going to miss you, Anna. A lot!

As CVMF looks toward the future, we appreciate the continued support of our community. Your generous year-end contributions are making a significant impact, and we are deeply grateful for your commitment to our cause. Together, we are making a positive impact on the lives of our veterans and their families.
