CVMF Newsletter - December 2025

Updated: Jan 8

Campbell Veterans Memorial Foundation

The CVMF is pleased to present this Newsletter about the Foundation’s activities, plans, and important events in 2025.

As we gather with loved ones and reflect on the year behind us, the CVMF Board extends our heartfelt thanks for your continued support, generosity, and friendship. Your commitment helped us make meaningful progress in honoring local veterans and strengthening the Campbell community.

With your help, we awarded well-deserved scholarships and provided four much-needed PCs to veteran students at Mission and West Valley Colleges. These gifts made a real difference for students working hard to build new futures after their service. We’re certainly grateful for everyone who contributed to making these opportunities possible.

Your support also carried us through two moving community traditions: the Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies. These gatherings reminded all of us how important it is to pause, remember, and honor those who served.

Another highlight was our lively Champagne Gala Brunch at the Community Center. Seeing so many familiar faces, sharing stories, and celebrating together was a joy for the entire Board.

Of course, we couldn’t be prouder of replacing the seventeen-year-old legacy sign and unveiling our brand-new Memorial sign. It's a symbol of pride, respect, and renewal, reflecting everything people appreciate about CVMF (See a cool video below). We’re excited to continue enhancing the Memorial in 2026 and will share more information as those plans evolve.

None of this would have happened without you. Your involvement, whether through donations, volunteer hours, attending events, or simply offering encouragement, keeps CVMF focused on our mission.

Thanks for standing with us this year. We wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with peace, good health, and hope. We look forward to seeing you again in 2026.

Champagne Gala Brunch

Can you believe it, CVMF distributed champagne to people in November at the Campbell Community Center? That's right, folks, our 75 guests drank coffee and orange juice, liberally spiked with world-class champagne, with their pancakes and sausage. As you can imagine, a grand old time was had by all. How often do you see that at the Community Center before noon?

Special thanks to Bert George (Joseph George Wines) for providing the bubblies, De Young Flowers for our beautiful table settings, and Dr. Simone Lundquist from Open Doors to Future Possibilities for raising our event to another level.

And a heartfelt and special thanks to the Master of the Ceremony, Steve Armbruster, JR. McKee and the entire Kiwanis Club of Campbell for lending their support.

Veterans Day Celebration

As a veteran-based organization, CVMF always enjoys celebrating Veterans Day because it gives us the opportunity to remind people why our Board exists in the first place. Our whole Mission is to provide scholarships, support families, and maintain a memorial..all for and about veterans.

Our 2025 celebration featured a star-spangled cast of guest speakers and honored guests, including Kent Hillhouse and Bill Cooper. Of course, who could forget the poignant Pledge of Allegiance performed by a 9-year-old Russian immigrant named Maksim, a member of the Scouts of America, Troop 333. That young man represents all that is good about America's future.

We want to thank Hishonor Sergio Lopez for leading the way with well-placed reminders about why we were all there, followed by inspiring words from Otto Lee, President, Board of Supervisors; State Senator Dave Cortese; and Rear Admiral Winston Copeland (Ret), our Keynote Speaker. Thank you, gentlemen. Your sage words will remain in our hearts eternally.

Had he not been required to return to Washington to reopen the U.S. government, we would have been graced by the presence of Representative Sam Liccardo, 16th District. Instead, the CVMF was proud to accept a beautiful Citation presented by Liccardo aide, Justin Jeong. See you next year, Sam!

Some Classic Memorial Nostalgia: 11.11.11

The invitation pictured above was the original public invitation to attend CVMF’s Memorial on November 11, 2011, with a formal dedication at 11 AM.

Hence the iconic 11.11.11.

As 2025 draws to a close, you have a unique opportunity to help CVMF sustain that legacy by making a much-appreciated donation. Your donation may be tax-deductible if contributed by 12/31/25.

The Memorial is a bucolic venue ideally suited for reflection and contemplation. There are over 200 beautifully engraved bricks and pavers honoring local heroes in the flag rotunda; it also received an upgrade with the installation of our new sign (see video above).  All donations received by 12/31/25 will be dedicated to enhancing the Memorial in support of its 15th Anniversary on 11.11.26.
